Contact Sarah to request a custom presentation on any topics related to sustainability, building performance modeling, commissioning, indoor environnmental quality, performance testing, or whatever else you want to talk about. Courses can be are approved for continuing education through AIA, USGBC, or other certification body, as needed. Below is a list of some of the key topics she speaks on:

The ROI of Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ)

What makes a building “healthy,” and how can we measure it?
This presentation explores the importance of Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), focusing on measurable factors such as air, water, and light. Sarah dives into the frameworks of leading sustainability rating programs like LEED, WELL, and Fitwel, explaining how these programs can improve occupant health and productivity while offering a tangible return on investment for building owners and developers.

Virus Mitigation in Typical HVAC Systems

What can HVAC systems do to help in non-healthcare buildings?
Post-pandemic, the conversation around indoor air quality has never been more important. This session focuses on how HVAC systems in offices, schools, and multifamily buildings can help mitigate virus transmission. Participants will learn about air quality parameters, ventilation requirements, and emerging technologies for improving IAQ in both existing and new buildings.

The Benefits of Commissioning

How can commissioning save time, money, and effort?
Commissioning is essential for identifying deficiencies in a building's design and operation before they cause problems. This talk focuses on the different types of commissioning under LEED v4/v4.1 and explains how they can lead to better performance and higher long-term value. Sarah also touches on new code requirements and how commissioning services can bridge into other beneficial services for owners.

Energy Modeling: Game Time

How can energy modeling inform better design choices?
This interactive workshop allows participants to get hands-on with energy modeling, using real-time data to make design decisions. Drawing on ASHRAE Standard 209-2018, the session breaks down the phases of energy modeling and its impact on a building's energy use intensity (EUI), while encouraging creative problem-solving through small group exercises.

Building Performance Modeling Tools

What happens behind the scenes of energy and daylight modeling?
This presentation demystifies the process of performance modeling for energy and daylight studies. It showcases real-world examples and tools used by consultants to inform design choices at every stage of a project, highlighting the importance of accurate data inputs for reliable results.

WELL and Fitwel Building Standards

How can buildings promote health and well-being?
As a WELL Faculty member and Fitwel Ambassador, Sarah guides participants through these two leading wellness standards. Learn how air, water, light, fitness, and other factors affect occupant health, and discover how to implement these standards in various types of buildings for maximum ROI.

The LEED Rating System

How can LEED certification drive sustainability and efficiency?
This session offers a deep dive into the LEED certification process, explaining the key concepts behind green building and the various credits available under LEED v4.1. Whether you need an introduction or an advanced session, Sarah will tailor the talk to your needs, covering everything from energy efficiency to sustainable materials.

Energy Audit Procedures and Findings

How can energy audits help reduce building consumption?
This presentation walks through the steps of conducting energy audits and implementing energy conservation measures (ECMs). Attendees will gain insights into typical findings and learn how audits can lead to meaningful reductions in energy use and costs.

Sustainable HVAC Design

How can HVAC systems contribute to sustainable buildings?
Sarah breaks down the basics of HVAC design, including how to size systems, select the right equipment, and consider the impact of different HVAC types on a building's performance. She also covers newer technologies that enhance the sustainability of HVAC systems.

Introduction to WELL Building Standard

How does the WELL Building Standard benefit human health?
This session introduces the WELL Building Standard and its impact on human health and well-being. Sarah covers the key components of WELL, how it compares to other systems, and how you can integrate its strategies into your own projects to promote health, happiness, and productivity.

Building Envelope & Thermography

What role does the building envelope play in energy efficiency?
Learn how the building envelope, including glazing, insulation, and air infiltration, impacts energy consumption. Sarah also introduces infrared thermography as a non-invasive method for diagnosing issues in the building envelope, helping attendees understand how to identify potential problems and ensure energy code compliance.

The Power of Peer Networks in Driving Sustainable Change

How can peer networks accelerate sustainability in the AEC industry?
This talk emphasizes the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing through peer networks in advancing sustainability goals. Sarah shares real-world examples of how these networks have driven industry-wide change, offering guidance on how attendees can join or start their own networks for greater impact.

IAQ Sensors Show and Tell

How can continuous monitoring improve IAQ in buildings?
With indoor air quality top of mind, Sarah presents a range of IAQ monitoring technologies and demonstrates how they work in real-time. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the benefits and challenges of continuous monitoring, as well as the future of IAQ in building operations.
